3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

IMPACTS-BRC2.1 is a generic radiological assessment code that allows calculation of potential impacts to maximum individuals, waste disposal workers, and the general population resulting from exemption of very low-level radioactive wastes from regulatory control. The code allows calculations to be made of human exposure to the waste by many pathways and exposure scenarios.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

Impacts to individuals and populations are calculated using analytical expressions for the migration of radionuclides along all pathways. The results of these analyses are  summed to produce the total impact.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME:
ESTS0005/01
- The three example problems were executed at the NEA-DB on a PC DELL 466/L (processor 80486, 67 MHz). About three seconds are required to perform a stacked run of IMPACTS over the three problems.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

IMPACTS-BRC2.1 is intended to be a dynamic program, in that it can be be easily adapted to a very specific situation from the generic form to which it is supplied. Because generic facility, environmental, and radionuclide data are supplied, the user may estimate radiological impacts simply by choosing the desired treatment and disposal options and supplying the characteristics of the waste stream. Or, the user may make the program as situation-specific as desired, simply by changing the generic data to reflect particular circumstances.

8. RELATED AND AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

IMPACTS-BRC2.1 is a modification of the IMPACTS-BRC2 which was derived from IMPACTS-BRC program which was derived from the IMPACTS-De Minimis and earlier IMPACT programs  of Oztunali and Roles. It provides integrated assessment of more exposure pathways than other existing programs.

11. MACHINE REQUIREMENTS:
ESTS0005/01
The sample problems were run at the NEA/DB on a PC DELL 466/L (processor 80486 , 67 MHz, base memory of 640 Kbyte and extended memory 15648 Kbyte). The filesizes of the four executables  IMPACTS.EXE, IMPSHELL.EXE,INSTALL.EXE and BROWSE.EXE are (in Kbyte)  176, 111, 85 and 41, respectively. No special memory requirements are imposed to run IMPACTS-BRC.
