FORMAT: ENDF/B-VI

NUMBER OF GROUPS: -- (energy range 1 keV to 100 MeV)

NUCLIDES: Z = 1 to 100

ORIGIN: National Bureau of Standards (DLC-0136/PHOTX)

WEIGHTING SPECTRUM: --

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
The HUGO-VI library is a translation to ENDF/B format from PHOTX (DLC-0136). Data are provided for elements with atomic number in the range Z = 1 to 100. Both cross section data (ENDF file 23) and coherent scattering form factors and incoherent scattering functions (ENDF file 27) are included. The energy range is 1 keV to 100 MeV.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

Many applications require the multigroup representation and in that case HUGO will have to be processed by the standard multigroup processing code systems. The data is in ENDF/B-VI format, but systems that accept ENDF/B-V formats, will accept HUGO.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

On the IBM 3033, the EDPHOT sample problem for EDPHOT ran in 6 seconds, while that for COMP23 ran in 3 seconds.

DLC-0146/01
Tests were performed at the NEA-DB in three different computers: (1) DEC VAX 6000/510 (running OpenVMS 6.0-1); (2) DEC 3000 Model 300X - Alpha AXP Architecture WS (running DEC OSF/1 V2.1); (3) PC Brett - Pentium processor, 75 MHz (running MS-DOS 6.2). Only a few seconds of elapsed time are required to run the sample problems in any of the three computers used on the tests performed at the NEA-DB. CPU times are for execution on the VAX 6000/510 platform under OpenVMS 6.0-1. The sample problem involving  the program EDPHOT (see description below) is executed in 4.92 CPU seconds, whereas the sample problem involving the program COMP23 (see description under item 8. below) is executed in 2.29 CPU seconds.

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES OF THE PROGRAM

Comparison with the ENDF/B-V version DLC-0099/01 indicates no differences above 1 MeV for all elements. The changes are greatest at the lowest energy. The changed photoelectric cross sections are primarily due to the fact that a renormalization used in previous compilations is not used with the present compilation which results in better agreement with experiment. No changes were made in file 27 (coherent scattering form factors and incoherent scattering functions).
