3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

KENO-4 is an improvement and extension of KENO-2 which was contributed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory and written for the IBM 360 computer. It is flexibly dimensioned, utilizes free-form input, and offers more geometry options than KENO. KENO-4 solves nuclear criticality eigenvalue problems. The results calculated by KENO-4 include k-effective, lifetime and generation time, energy-dependent leakages and absorptions, energy- and region-dependent fluxes and region- dependent fission densities. Criticality searches can be made on unit dimensions or on the number of units in an array. KENO-4/CRC has several added features which include a neutron balance edit, PICTURE-3 routines to check the input geometry, and a random number  sequencing subroutine written in FORTRAN for the CRAY-1 computer.

KENO-4/CRC solves the Boltzmann neutron transport equation using Monte Carlo methods.

The program is flexibly dimensioned so the allowed size of a problem is limited only by the total data storage available.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

Running times are highly problem dependent on the complexity of the geometry, the number of energy groups, and the type of materials in the problem.

At least one scratch unit is necessary and a  minimum of about 200K core is required to hold the program and problem data. The options specified for any given problem determine  any additional units that will be needed (input cross sections, input weights for automatic reflector regions, input albedo data, input restart data and output restart data).
