3. DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM OR FUNCTION

DASH is a program designed to process surface angular fluxes generated by the two-dimensional discrete ordinates code DOT. Using angular fluxes stored on tape by  DOT from a cylindrical geometry calculation, DASH calculates angular fluxes on arbitrary cylindrical geometry surfaces outside th DOT boundaries.

Since flux information internal to DASH has a Monte Carlo format and can be collected into the tables appropriate to an Sn calculation, DASH can be used as coupling code. Source information can be input to DASH in either Sn or Monte Carlo format, and either  format can be output for use as source information for a following coupled code.

4. METHOD OF SOLUTION

The calculation is carried out by a numerical integration of angular fluxes employing a single-event Monte Carlo routine. Particle traces are generated by random sampling of the Sn  angular flux histograms or of power series fits to the Sn information. This employment of random sampling avoids the "ray effects" that would occur if DOT were extended to include void or pure absorber regions.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

DASH accepts surface angular flux data from a tape generated by DOT problems of r-z geometry. The radial and axial interval sizes and quadrature constants must be identical to those used in the DOT problem.

Dimensions of subscripted variables are set by control parameters in the input data. Only the sizes of two large arrays, named A and B, are fixed. These arrays contain all the dimensioned variables. There size is limited by the problem requirements and the core storage available.

Only one DOT source tape and one Monte Carlo tape can be generated per stack of cases. Each stack can operate on only one output tape from DOT.
