Working Group on Risk Assessment (WGRISK)

Workshop on Fire Probabilistic Safety Assessment

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico 23-26 May 2005

Hosted by the Comisión Nacional de Seguridad Nuclear y Salvaguardias (CNSNS)

The workshop technical sessions addressed the following main topics:

  • Fire PSA methodology and applications;
  • Fire simulation codes applied or available;
  • Ignition and damageability data;
  • Modelling of fire spread on cables or other equipment;
  • Modelling of smoke production and spread;
  • Impact of smoke and heat on instrumentation, electronics, and other electrical equipment;
  • Impact of cable fires on safety systems;
  • Explosive faults of switchgear.

Papers on the above listed main topics were solicited from regulators, industry and researchers. The summary sessions and discussions were presentations by session’s chairs or pre-assigned experts based on each of the workshop technical sessions.

A closing session, with a panel on issues arising, along with questions and comments from the audience, was held at the end of the meeting.

The proceedings of the meeting will be issued as a CSNI WGRISK report and will include papers from the opening session, formal presentations and summary of the closing session.
