In June 2005, the Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) agreed to set up an expert meeting on the German proposal concerning the THAI Project. The objectives of the project were to carry out a series of experiments in the THAI facility operated by Becker Technologies, Germany, to address open questions on the behavior of hydrogen, iodine and aerosols in a severe accident situation.

The project was established in 2007 and ran until December 2009. The OECD/NEA THAI project was supported by safety organisations, research laboratories and industries from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Korea, Netherlands and Switzerland.

Though the reports produced in the frame of the project are restricted to project signatories, the Management Board of the THAI Project agreed to produce this version of the final report which was made available to non-signatories.
