A Senior Task Group on the Robustness of Electrical Systems of NPPs (ROBELSYS) has been set up to improve the understanding of nuclear power plant electrical system robustness and defence in depth by comparing design practices and plant emergency and operating procedures in member countries; improve the safety review process of nuclear power plant electrical systems by learning from best practices in member countries; and promote cooperation among member countries to improve safety.
Fulfilling this objective the group will organise an International workshop on Robustness of Electrical Systems of NPPs in Light of the Fukushima Daiichi Accident, where the lessons learned from the Fukushima accident as concerns the electrical systems and the provisions taken by various countries in terms of requirements and design in order to enhance the robustness of these electrical systems, especially in regards to the protection against extreme external hazards will be identified and discussed.
Members from Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the United States have taken part in this task.
The Institut de Radioprotection et de Sûreté Nucléaire (IRSN) has lead the activity.
