Nuclear safety

The NEA Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations (CSNI) will organise a seminar on the Transfer of Knowledge Gained through CSNI Activities in the Field of Thermal-hydraulics in Pisa, Italy, on 5-9 May 2008. The objective of this seminar is to transfer the competence and experience acquired from CSNI activities carried out over the last two decades to specialists unfamiliar with the CSNI's work and newcomers to the field. The CSNI's work during this period has included: writing state-of-the-art reports; compiling computer code validation matrices; investigating user effects; studying uncertainty methods; co-ordinating international standard problem exercises; and organising specialist workshops. Managers and research planners in the nuclear safety field would also benefit from attending the seminar. More information is available at: www.oecd-nea.org/nsd/workshops/thicket-2008/.

Radiological protection

The NEA Committee on Radiation Protection and Public Health (CRPPH) is organising a workshop on Science and Values in Radiological Protection in Helsinki, Finland, on 15-17 January 2008. Workshop participants will seek to identify how to integrate new scientific and technological developments and socio-political considerations into the radiological protection system. Participants will include researchers, policy makers and other stakeholders. The dialogue between researchers and policy makers during the conference will help both groups understand what issues are at stake in the system of radiological protection adopted, given the evolving state of scientific knowledge and social values. Participants will also seek to identify research that can better inform the choices of decision makers who are dealing with emerging radiological protection issues. More information is available at www.oecd-nea.org/rp/helsinki08/.

Data Bank

JANIS-3 now available

JANIS-3, the third version of the NEA-developed nuclear data display program, is now available. JANIS is designed to facilitate the visualisation and manipulation of nuclear data. Its objective is to allow the nuclear data user to view numerical values and graphical representations without necessarily being familiar with the storage format. It offers maximum flexibility for the comparison of different nuclear data sets. The new version is delivered on a DVD containing the application along with the most important nuclear data libraries, as well as bibliographical and experimental data. To order a copy of the new version, visit www.oecd-nea.org/janis/orderform.html .
