Each country profile in this valuable reference work provides a detailed review of a full range of nuclear law topics. These include: the general regulatory regime, including mining; radioactive substances and equipment; nuclear installations; trade in nuclear materials; radiation protection; radioactive waste management; non-proliferation and physical protection; transport; and nuclear third party liability.

Nuclear Power in NEA Member Countries
Free online service.
These profiles cover the nuclear power situation in each country, the national laws and regulations covering the peaceful use of nuclear energy, current issues and developments and related links. Information drawn from the 2003 IAEA publication Country Nuclear Power Profiles is supplemented by links to NEA publications and ongoing work.

Nuclear safety

The NEA Committee on the Safety of Nuclear Installations has just issued a new State-of-the-Art Report on Systematic Approaches to Safety Management. It provides a brief explanation of the relationship between safety management and safety culture, and underlines the need for nuclear licensees and regulators to take positive steps to ensure that licensees develop and sustain a robust safety management system as a part of their overall management system.

Nuclear science

The first edition of the International Handbook of Evaluated Reactor Physics Experiments has been released. The handbook was produced as part of the International Reactor Physics Experiment Evaluation (IRPhE) project. This project was established to provide a peer-reviewed set of integral data for reactor physics. The data can be used by reactor designers and safety analysts to validate the analytical tools used to design next-generation reactors and establish the safety basis for operating these reactors. The handbook provides verified and extensively peer-reviewed reactor physics benchmark measurement data from 16 experimental series performed at 12 reactor facilities. More information is available at www.oecd-nea.org/dbcps/IRPhE-latest.htm.
