The CNRA and the CSNI met in December 2003. Both committees reviewed work accomplished during 2003 as well as proposed activities for the future. A number of workshops will be organised in 2004 and 2005 - for more details see the updated calendar of forthcoming workshops and seminars at www.oecd-nea.org/nsd/workshops/.

The NEA Nuclear Science Committee has established an expert group to study very high burn-up fuel cycles in light water reactors. The expert group's aim is to produce a report on the potential benefits of very high burn-up (60100 gigawatt-days per tonne) covering both its technical and economic aspects. The report will identify technical problems associated with very high burn-up fuel cycles, but will not attempt to solve these problems. A first meeting of the expert group was held at OECD headquarters on 13-14 January 2004; the group's next meeting will be in autumn 2004.
