The first meeting of the Special Expert Group on Fuel Safety Margins – established in order to address cross-cutting issues related to fuel behaviour in accident conditions – took place at NEA headquarters on 21-23 June... more

The Committee on Nuclear Regulatory Activities met for its annual special issues meeting on 19-20 June. The topic for this year was "Life Extension and Upgrading of Nuclear Power Plants". Senior regulators reviewed and discussed the results of a survey on this subject. A final report will be prepared and issued later this year.

Radiation protection

The new NEA report entitled Radiological Impacts of Spent Nuclear Fuel Management Options was presented at the annual meeting of the OSPAR Commission on 26-30 June in Copenhagen, Denmark. Nuclear science

The NEA Nuclear Science Committee (NSC) met on 7-9 June and discussed its programme of work (www.oecd-nea.org/science/program.html) in the areas of nuclear science and Data Bank services. An in-depth discussion on the preservation of integral experimental data was held at the meeting and the NSC confirmed its intention to actively pursue this project to identify, document and store the data in public databases at the NEA Data Bank.

The Working Party on International Nuclear Data Evaluation Co-operation (WPEC) (www.oecd-nea.org/science/wpec/) met in Japan on 20-21 June. The status of the participating evaluation projects, as well as the ongoing experimental activities worldwide, was reviewed. A new subgroup on neutron activation data was created.
