We are an equal opportunity employer and we encourage all qualified candidates to apply.

The OECD is a unique forum where the governments of 31 market democracies work together to address the economic, social and governance challenges of the globalising world economy, as well as to exploit its opportunities.

The NEA Nuclear Science programme aims to assist member countries identify, collate, develop and disseminate the basic scientific and technical knowledge required to ensure the safe, reliable and economic operation of current and next generation nuclear systems. The Nuclear Science programme of work is closely coordinated with that of the NEA Data Bank, which acts as a reference centre to laboratories, universities, and industries in member countries for scientific nuclear data and computer codes used to analyse and to model different nuclear phenomena. These data and codes are fine-tuned and validated through co-ordinated benchmark exercises under the supervision of the NEA Nuclear Science Committee (NSC) and especially the NSC Working Party on scientific issues of Reactor Systems (WPRS).

Fixed term appointment of two years

We are looking for a Nuclear Physicist to assist in the co-ordination and development of the joint Nuclear Science and Data Bank effort to preserve information from well document integral experiments in the field of reactor physics, the so called IRPhE (International Reactor Physics Benchmark Experiments) project. S/he will work under the supervision of the scientific secretary of the NSC Working Party on scientific issues of Reactor Systems (WPRS).

Job Duties

1. Project support and liaison

• Support the NEA International Reactor Physics Benchmark Experiments (IRPhE) project notably by identifying well-documented integral experiments in the field of reactor physics, obtaining detailed information about these experiments, evaluating the information and compiling it into an agreed upon format, possibly with the help of external experts. • Liaise with external experts working for the project to monitor progress and help ensure that the work is delivered on time and in the agreed format.

2. Database support

• Assess the feasibility and specify the requirements for a tool suitable for users to interrogate the IRPhE database, by a. reviewing existing IRPhE evaluations to identify provisional set of neutronic parameters, b. discussing provisional parameters with members of WPRS Expert Groups and IRPhE contributors c. identifying means (e.g. appropriate modelling methods) by which parameters for existing and future evaluations can be calculated, and d. producing a detailed specification for new database tool

3. Meetings and other

• Organise meetings with the IRPhE data evaluators as needed.
• Any other task as assigned by the Head of the NEA Nuclear Science section.

Qualifications: education, experience, communication and languages

1. Education and experience

• University degree at PhD level in Nuclear Reactor Physics and Technology or equivalent.
• Three to seven years of research experience in experimental reactor physics and good knowledge of calculation methods used in modelling reactor parameters.

2. Key competencies

• Proven ability to co-ordination international studies involving experts in research laboratories, universities and industry in member countries.
• Good organisation and ability to take initiatives.

3. Communication and OECD official languages

• Good communication and interpersonal skills including proven ability to work in a multicultural environment.
