3. DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM OR FUNCTION

VENTEASY is an easy-to-use neutronics code that was derived from the code module VENTNEUT in the BOLD VENTURE code system (Reference below).

The geometries that may be used are:
One dimension - Slab (X), Cylinder (R), Sphere (S)
Two Dimension - X-Y, R-Z, THETA-R, Triangle (T), Hexagon (H)
Three Dimensions - X-Y-Z, THETA-R-Z, T-Z, H-Z

Cross sections may be macroscopic or microscopic.

Types of problems that may be solved are:
- Multiplication factor (Keffective)
- Adjoint
- Criticality search for a desired Keffective by adjusting dimensions, nuclide concentrations, or buckling.

4. METHODS

The finite-difference representation of diffusion theory or a simple P1approximation is used. Neutron-flux-eigenvalue problems are solved by direct inner-outer iterations with restrained line overrelaxtion. Asymptotic flux extrapolation is used when distinct error modes are established. The eigenvalue of a problem is calculated each outer iteration from an overall neutron balance; however, source ratios are used in some situations.

5. RESTRICTIONS ON THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEM

The sizes of problems that may be solved are restricted only by the size of the computer memory.

6. TYPICAL RUNNING TIME

Using an AMD Sempron Processor 3400+ (Speed 1803 MHz), and 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz; the two group-three dimensional IAEA benchmark problem (sample problems 20 and 27) required:
Mesh 17x17x19 - approximately 1 second
Mesh 136x136x152 - approximately 10 minutes

7. UNUSUAL FEATURES

In the output data file, the input data for a problem is listed prior to the output data, and there is a condensed output data file that shows only minimum output.

8. RELATED OR AUXILIARY PROGRAMS

VENTEASY uses the following code modules from the BOLD VENTURE code system (Reference below). STARTER, DRIVER, CROSPROS, INDCMACR, INDCRSPR, INDENMAN, INDUTLIN, INDVENTR, INPROSER, PERTUBAT, WRITCTL, WRAPERUP.
